1. VLC - VideoLAN Player
VLC is one of the most popular multimedia player. It can play most of Audio/Video formats: ASF / WMV / WMA/MPEG (ES,PS,TS,PVA,MP3)/OGG / OGM / Annodex/MP4 / MOV / 3GP/Raw Audio: DTS, AAC, AC3/A52/FLV (Flash), ... and much more. VLC player has Windows, Linux, MacOS, Free/Open/Net BSD, Solaris, iOS, OS/2 versions.
The last thing ofcourse is: VLC is totally free.

To make VLC a beautiful player you could use VLC Skins Package that included a lot of skins for you. Some screenshots for you:

How to use these skins?
Put the downloaded VLT files in the following folder:
- On Windows: the skins folder in the VLC installation directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\VLC\skins)
- On Linux/Unix: ~/.local/share/vlc/skins2
Then open your VLC settings and change your interface from native to skins. You can choose your desired skin already there or change it when you are in the skins mode by rightclicking somewhere on the skin and going to Interface>Choose Skin. VLC needs to be restarted to change to skins mode.

Despite lacking a Help file, KMPlayer is one of the most powerful freeware video players we've seen. It includes a vast array of video- and audio-capturing options, as well as skins, a plethora of playback controls and tweaks, and broad DVD support.

II. FILE SPLITTER/JOINER
These tools are used for open .001, .002, .003, __a, __b, ... files.1. HJSPLIT
HJSplit is a popular freeware program to split and recombine files. The program is available on Windows, Linux and a variety of other platforms.
Why should one want to split and recombine files? For instance, think of a file of 50 Mb, and try to send it to a friend, post it in a newsgroup or upload it to a Website or FTP server. It is usually easier to send/receive, upload/download smaller parts than handle the entire file in one go.

2. FFSJ - The Fastest File Splitter and Joiner
FFSJ consists of two main programs: File Splitter and File Joiner. File Splitter enables you to split a large file into small chunks which are easy to be sent and stored, while File Joiner allows you to join these split parts together so that the original file is restored.
